Parksville man dies after single-vehicle crash along Resort Dr.

PARKSVILLE — A 66-year-old man has died after their vehicle collided with trees in the south end of the city.

Oceanside RCMP report the driver, and lone occupant of their vehicle, left the roadway and crashed into trees at the Resort Dr. and Tanglewood Pl. intersection, around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9.

Sgt. Shane Worth told NanaimoNewsNOW the vehicle, a white Tesla, was travelling westbound along Resort Dr. and failed to make a left hand turn.

“We’re not too sure what happened and what led up to why the vehicle went off the road. We are working with the BC Coroners Service and Worksafe BC to determine that. We will be conducting a mechanical inspection on the vehicle to determine if there were any issues that may have contributed to the crash.”

The vehicle was being used as a taxi at the time of the incident but no passengers were inside.

Worth said their investigation has some challenges, with little information about what led up to the crash.

“We did have some bystanders that were at the scene who heard the crash but did not witness it. We are asking that if anybody happened to witness this crash, has any dash cam video or any other information regarding the collision to contact Oceanside RCMP.”

He added part of the investigation will be to determine what, if any, medical issues contributed to the situation.

Anyone with information on the incident can reach out to Oceanside RCMP at 250 248 6111, quoting file number 2024-9099.
