Dumont denied bail

Jean Paul Dumont is back in jail after allegedly stealing a trailer filled with tools in Beaver Creek.

The 74-year old was on a Community Sentence Order for buying stolen metal from an undercover police officer last year, and was on conditions to not possess any scrap metal, or any metal that did not already belong to him.

Crown Prosecutor Gordon Baines said Dumont has a long history of taking in stolen property.

Judge Alexander Wolf said people might have been surprised by his earlier CSO, but Dumont’s detention was now neccesary to maintain public confidence in the administration of justice.

Dumont could remain in jail until his trial – his third trial on similar charges – for a man previously referred to as “the epicentre of property crime in Port Alberni”.
