NANAIMO — Local Mounties are working to piece together the circumstances behind an attack in central Nanaimo’s Diver Lake area last month.

Police say on Thursday, March 21, at around 10:40 p.m. a 15-year-old girl was assaulted on Labieux Rd. near Shenton Rd. by a young woman she knew who was armed with a baton.

The girl sustained non-life threatening injuries.

“The investigators believe that a group of young people witnessed the altercation and that someone recorded the incident on video,” Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Sherri Wade said in a statement.

Through the course of their investigation, police learned the victim and another woman got the attention of a passing motorist and asked for a ride to a home on Second St. near Howard Ave.

A female minor was arrested by Mounties for the assault the following day. It was noted the girl was also injured from the attack, having sustained minor injuries from what police called a “bladed weapon”.

Nanaimo RCMP officers are now looking for any further witnesses to come forward, including someone who may have recorded the altercation on their phone.

They also want to speak to the driver who took the two girls to the Second St. home.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 1-250-754-2345.
