Alberni accomodations approved

Sproat Lake area director Penny Cote tried to stop an expansion of Sproat Lake Landing, but she was overruled by all other Alberni Valley directors.

Sproat Lake Landing wants to expand their alcohol service areas to allow outdoor events like evening concerts and large weddings to accomodate up to 200 people.

Cote called the proposal “irresponsible”, but other directors said more facilities are needed to attract tourists and conferences to the valley.

Also at yesterday’s meeting, ACRD Directors began discussions on restoring the RV campground at Hollies Golf Course.

Recognizing the shortage of campsites in the valley, board members agreed to consider a 3-year temporary use permit for 35 sites.
