Overtime penalty factors into Clippers 4-3 loss to Penticton

Sep 29, 2023 | 9:55 PM

NANAIMO — The Clippers had their best start to a game this BCHL season but their most disappointing finish.

Nanaimo scored first on a mid first period power play when Cole Lonsdale jammed a puck behind goalie Andrew Ness.

Attila Lippai tied the game moments later on quick shot off a Penticton offensive zone faceoff.

Jack Edwards first BCHL goal on a steal put the Clippers in front again with the three first period goals happening in just over a minute and a half.

Edwards scored again in the second period to put Nanaimo up 3-1 but the Vees chipped away from there.

James Fischer scored on a delayed penalty and Brock Reinhart tallied a shorthanded goal before the second intermission.

The goalies were perfect in the third period with the Clippers Tyler Hodges having to be particularly sharp on Penticton power plays.

It was a late penalty call in overtime that gave the Vees a four on three power play where Francesco Dell’Elce notched the game winner.

The Clippers were incensed with the tripping call on Edwards that led to the overtime marker.

Nanaimo was shorthanded four straight times in the second half of the game and finished 4/5 on the penalty kill and 1/2 on the man advantage.

The final shots finished 35-30 in Penticton’s favour.

The Sept. 29 three stars were 1) Francesco Dell’Elce 2) Jack Edwards 3) Isa Parekh

Nanaimo next plays the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on the road on Saturday Sept. 30 at 7 p.m.
