Clippers end regular season with 4-1 road win over Grizzlies.

NANAIMO — The Clippers played a solid 60 minutes in their last game of the year in a 4-1 win over Victoria.

Nanaimo built up a 4-0 lead over the first 40 minutes and had an excellent outing from goalie Shane Shelest, the game’s first star.

Brody Waters got the offense going with a top corner shot four minutes into the game.

A power play goal by Kai Daniells extended the lead to 2-0 after 20 minutes.

Daniells was in on both first period markers and ended the regular season on a 14 game point streak with 20 points in that span.

Nanaimo added two more goals in the second period with Brett Merner and Jeremie Payant finding the back of the net.

Victoria broke through in the final frame with a goal from the slot by Jack Gorton.

The Clippers were outshot 29-27 outshot by the Grizzlies and ended up 1/5 on the man advantage and 3/3 on the penalty kill.

Nanaimo had a 37-14-3 season with 77 points.

They finished in first place in the Coastal Division and will face the Langley Rivermen in round one of the post season.

Game 1 of the playoffs will be on Friday, March 31 at Frank Crane Arena.

The other dates for the series will April 1,3 and 4 and then possibly April 6,8 and 10 if necessary.
