Nanaimo motorist crashes after spotted minutes earlier driving wrong way down highway
NANAIMO — A motorist reported to be driving driving the wrong way on the Old Island Hwy. in Nanaimo is believed to have caused a multi-vehicle crash soon-after.
Emergency crews were initially called to the corner of the highway and Bowen Rd., on Wednesday, Feb. 1 around 11:45 a.m. for a medical aid response, however reports emerged from Nanaimo Fire Rescue of a black car seen travelling away from the scene, down the wrong way of the highway.
A few minutes later, a separate callout for a crash involving a black Chevy crossover SUV, with a matching license plate from the earlier report, and another vehicle came in at the corner of Mostar Rd. and Boban Dr.
“It appeared to be a high speed impact with the amount of debris on the road. We’re unsure what caused the accident, whether it was a medical distress situation or simply a driving error,” Nanaimo Fire Rescue Captain Mike Allard said on scene.
