NANAIMO — Here we go again.

Environment Canada has issued the second snowfall warning in a week for eastern Vancouver Island, including Nanaimo and communities throughout Oceanside.

Forecasters are calling for between five and 15 centimetres of snow beginning Friday afternoon and carrying through to Saturday morning.

“A low-pressure system will brush Vancouver Island on Friday and bring another round of snow,” the warning read. “Light snow will begin Friday morning but the heaviest snowfall is forecast to fall near the afternoon rush hour commute.”

Communities at higher elevations are expected to see more than 15 centimetres.

Travellers, particularly those going over the Malahat Hwy. are advised to take extra caution, or adjust their plans.

“The snow level will rise to near the Malahat Highway Summit level Friday night. Travellers are advised to be wary of changing road conditions due to the change from snow to rain.”

Between 10 and 20 centimetres of snow fell throughout the central Island beginning the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 29.

It was a storm which was quickly dealt with by snow plowing crews, with a majority of residential roads cleared by late Wednesday.

Temperatures during the storm are expected to hover just below freezing, bringing in the possibility of wet snow or rain should the mercury rise above zero.

Weekend forecasts are calling for clearing conditions before clouds and rain next week.
