Clippers put on strong defensive effort in 3-1 win over Capitals

NANAIMO — All the offense was in the first 22 minutes of the Clippers 3-1 win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Skyler Cameron scored a minute and a half into the game and the Capitals Luke Strickland equalized half way through the first period to send the game tied 1-1 to the intermission.

Goals 14 seconds apart by the Clippers Charles Tardif on a power play and then Mike Murtagh put Nanaimo in control with the offense on both sides drying up in the last half of the contest.

Aidan Campbell made 33 saves for the win while McCoy Bidewell stopped 34 in the loss.

The Clippers went 1/4 on the man advantage and killed off their only power play against.

Nanaimo now moves to 3-0 against the Capitals this season and with a 13-3 record they took sole possession of first place in the Coastal Division.

The Clippers have a home and home series with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs starting in Nanaimo on Nov. 11 and 12.

Those matchups will close a stretch of five games in eight nights for Nanaimo.
