NANAIMO — The City’s top elected position will remain unchanged for another four years.

Leonard Krog was comfortably re-elected in the 2022 Municipal Election, winning with 12,390 votes and holding off challenges from Tasha Brown (4,207) Brunie Brunie (723) and Agnes Provost (792).

Krog told NanaimoNewsNOW while the results were still coming in, that he’s ready to get back to work with whoever gets elected on to council.

“I’m going to work and work well with anyone who’s going to be elected to Nanaimo City Council. I’m very obviously pleased to be re-elected. My good friend told me I probably wouldn’t get the same percentage as last time, but it appears to be a very satisfactory result so far.”

It’s the second term for Krog with the City of Nanaimo, after moving to local politics during a tumultuous period for the area.

His win in 2018 came against two challenges, however, Krog’s 20,040 votes was enough to see him claim nearly 73 per cent of voter support.

With a few new faces on council, Krog said he’d be more than happy to work with any of them.

“I regarded it as the singular success of this last council was good governance. With good governance, staff feel comfortable working harder, performing, presenting new ideas, and playing the role a good public service should…I’m quite optimistic.”

Krog and Council will be sworn in ahead of their first meeting on Monday, Nov. 7.

Results and vote totals as of publishing are deemed unofficial, with final tallies due in the coming days.

Unofficial Nanaimo City Council election results:

Paul Manly (10,366)

Sheryl Armstrong (10,260)

Ben Geselbracht (8,383)

Ian Thorpe (8,040)

Erin Hemmens (7,497)
