Post-weekend traffic clogging up Duke Point-Tsawwassen crossings

NANAIMO — Those wanting to leave Vancouver Island for the Lower Mainland will face some additional delays Monday.

BC Ferries reports there is a four sailing wait as of 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 15 between Duke Point and Tsawwassen. Departures at 10:15 a.m., 12:45 p.m., 3:15 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. are all full.

Ticket agents are now booking vehicles into the 8:15 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. crossings and BC Ferries is recommending travel between Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay for those without reservations.

Sailings on the route are seeing less in the way of wait times, with the 11:05 a.m. sailing full, and other crossings throughout the day still having deck space available.

Traffic flowed relatively smoothly through the weekend with a minimal amount of cancelled sailings, often late at night, due to crew shortages.
