‘What this plan speaks to is optimism:’ revamped Commercial St. in downtown Nanaimo envisioned
NANAIMO — It’s the amalgamation of multiple different ideas, plans and directions into a singular vision for the city’s beleaguered downtown core.
City councillors voted on Monday, June 20 to support a multi-phased plan for development in Nanaimo’s downtown, centred around Commercial St. and its various offshoots.
Mayor Leonard Krog capped a 40-minute discussion by saying the ideas presented, which are yet to be fully costed, were sensible and prioritize public safety.
“I have to be optimistic, and I want to be optimistic and I believe what this plan speaks to is optimism for our community. I think it’s exciting and I think we should endorse it.”
