Nanaimo lotto player lucks into $500,000 prize

Mar 17, 2022 | 11:22 AM

NANAIMO — Few things in life are apparently more certain than death, taxes and mid-Island players winning lotto prizes.

The Harbour City has continued a run of regular lotto winners with another $500,000 prize awarded during the Wednesday, March 16 Lotto 6/49 draw.

The as-yet unidentified player matched all four numbers on the extra to win, beating the odds of 1 in 3,764,376.

Nanaimo players have routinely beaten the odds since 2012.

The latest win becomes at least the 21st such prize of $500,000 or more to be won by a ticket purchased in Nanaimo over the last decade.

Several other, lesser value prizes have also been collected through lotto payouts or scratch and win tickets.

In addition, Nanaimo business owners Erralyn and Joshua Joseph recently pocketed $2.1 million through a slot machine progressive jackpot at the Nanaimo casino.

Wednesday’s jackpot of $8 million was won by a player in Vancouver, who correctly picked the winning numbers of 1, 3, 8, 14, 15 and 16.
