Cash reward offered for information leading to remains of Lisa Marie Young

NANAIMO — A sizeable cash reward is being offered for information regarding the disappearance of Lisa Marie Young.

An anonymous donor has put up $50,000 USD (around $63,000 CAD) for information which leads police to the remains of Lisa’s body.

Cyndy Hall has advocated for Lisa and her family since the disappearance of the then 21-year-old in 2002.

“We’re hoping the reward will help motivate the person who knows where Lisa is to do the right thing because we know a lot of people are scared so I just hope this is just something that’ll help people or person do the right thing and tell us where Lisa’s body is.”

The reward will be paid out if the tip leads directly to Young’s remains, not a suggestion of where she might be.

The donor, an American person, became aware of Lisa’s disappearance through a highly subsribed podcast series in 2020. The individual has no other connection to Young or her family.

“They’ve never met Lisa, they were just touched by her story. They just cared, the person is just a very caring, generous person who sees the family has been in pain for nearly 20 years and wants to help.”

Young was last seen the night of June 30, 2002 leaving a party in a red Jaguar driven by a man who remains a person of interest.

No charges have ever been laid in Young’s disappearance,however the case remains actively investigated by the Nanaimo RCMP detachment.

Hall said it’s important to keep Lisa’s memory alive and ensure her case doesn’t get lost as time passes. As liason to the family, she keeps in regular contact with RCMP about the case.

“If we have somebody that has info, I reach out to [Cpl. Markus Muntener, lead investigator] or if we want to connect about an update, what’s going on with Lisa’s file, I talk to him quite a bit,” Hall said. “The investigators are really good about getting back to us.”

At a rally in June 2021, Muntener said multiple people had come forward with new information and police believe there are others like them out there.

“A lot of those people may not have been comfortable doing that early on in this investigation, but through the course of time and changes in their circumstances they’ve come forward to do that,” Muntener said in a public address on Saturday, June 26.

Formal searches for Young have occurred over recent years and more will be done in the future based on information which comes in.

RCMP believe Young met foul play and is deceased.

Cst. Hayley Pinfold is assisting on the large-scale investigation. She said in June they need more information about the night in question.

“We’re just asking that people come talk to us, we’re here to listen to everybody no matter their circumstances now or in the past,” Cst. Pinfold said at the rally.

A walk annually in downtown Nanaimo occurs in Young’s memory aimed at advancing the investigation into her disappearance and bringing closure to her family and friends.
