Clippers winning streak stopped at four with 3-2 home loss to Capitals

NANAIMO — The Clippers fell behind early and never recovered in a 3-2 loss to Cowichan Valley.

Nick Marciano scored on a man advantage to get the Capitals off on the right foot before Sean Donaldson tied the score late in the first period with his team leading 16th goal of the season.

Colin Campbell and Sam Schofield staked Cowichan to a 3-1 lead before a late third period goal by Jeremie Payant capped off the scoring.

The Clippers outshot the Capitals 36-30, including a 17-6 count in the second period, but McCoy Bidewell was unbeatable in net in the middle frame.

Bidewell recorded his first win this season while Cooper Black made 27 stops and suffered only his third loss.

Both teams had five power plays with Marciano’s goal the only man advantage tally.

The Clippers had a streak of seven straight games with a power play goal come to an end.

Nanaimo will next face the Surrey Eagles on Dec. 5 at 2 p.m.

A game has also been added to the schedule with the Clippers travelling to Powell River for a 5 p.m. contest on Dec. 11.

Their game against Alberni Valley on Dec.12 has been moved to a 7 p.m faceoff.
