NANAIMO — Two additional cases have been added to an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

One patient and one staff member in the Transitional Care Unit of NRGH recently tested positive for COVID-19.

To date six patients and one staff member are included in the outbreak, with all cases contained inside the unit.

The outbreak was confirmed internally on Monday, Nov. 1 with a notice going out to the public the following day.

It’s now the largest outbreak at Nanaimo Hospital during the pandemic, in terms of the number of people affected.

Island Health continues contact tracing tracing and testing both staff and patients in the unit and have isolated it from the rest of the hospital.

“The hospital is still a safe place and people should not avoid seeking emergency care if they require it. All outpatient services and scheduled procedures will continue as normal,” Island Health said earlier this week in a release.
