Coquihalla Crash

Fiery crash injures six on Coquihalla near Larson Hill

MERRITT, B.C. — RCMP say they would like to see dashcam footage and speak to witnesses about a serious crash on the Coquihalla Highway Friday morning (Oct. 29).

Just before 11:00 a.m. near Larson Hill, about 35 kilometres southwest of Merritt, a commercial truck and trailer collided with four passenger vehicles. When emergency crews arrived on scene, four of the five vehicles involved were on fire.

Sgt. Josh Roda of Merritt RCMP says an officer and employees of the Ministry of Transportation were able to pull one vehicle to safety while the driver was trapped inside.

Two people involved in the crash were rushed to hospital and remain in critical condition. Four others are in serious condition.

“This a stark reminder for people that winter is here.” says Roda in a news release. “Snow and speed don’t mix, and everyone driving on our highways needs to slow down and have winter tires or chains.”

As of late Friday afternoon, the southbound lanes of the highway were back open but the northbound lanes were closed.
