More evacuations ordered as a result of growth in the Deka Lake wildfire

WILLIAMS LAKE – The growing threat of wildfires has prompted the Cariboo Regional District to issue an Evacuation Order and an Evacuation Alert today (July 1).

The Evacuation Order affects 14 properties along Judson Road east of 100 Mile House. Properties located within the dark red area of the map are newly affected areas. Properties in the light red portion of the map were placed on an Evacuation Order earlier Thursday.

Authorities are advising residents of the properties to evacuate along Horse Lake Rd to Highway 24 and then to 100 Mile House. Evacuees should register with Emergency Support Services at the South Cariboo Recreation Centre at 175 Wrangler Way in 100 Mile House.

Meantime the Cariboo Regional District has issued an Evacuation Alert for 153 properties at Sulphurous Lake, just north of the Deka Lake Evacuation Order.

The Deka Lake wildfire is one of more than a dozen that were ignited by a lightning storm that swept over the region Wednesday evening. It is estimated to be 70 hectares in size.

The BC Wildfire Service has deployed 48 firefighters, a helicopter and one piece of heavy equipment to the fire.
