PORT ALBERNI – Thomas Maia scored the first goal of the night and the last goal of the game in Nanaimo’s 3-2 overtime victory against Alberni Valley.

Despite Maia giving the Clippers the lead they were down 2-1 in the second period until a Trevor LeDonne power play marker evened the score.

It was a tight game throughout with both Jordan Naylor and the Bulldogs Luke Pearson looking solid in net.

Naylor was the second star with 33 saves while Pearson faced 40 Clipper shots.

Both Bulldogs goals were scored on the man advantage, and the Clippers held Alberni’s top line of Castagna, Van Unen and Buhr off the scoresheet.

Maia’s OT winner gave the Clippers their first win in four tries over the Bulldogs this season and it was the first time Nanaimo has been in a game that went beyond 60 minutes.

The same two clubs will play again on April 30 as they continue a series of three games in six days.

Nanaimo concludes the week with a May 1 date with the Victoria Grizzlies.
