Person of interest identified in Woodgrove groping assault

NANAIMO — Police are looking for a person of interest in a despicable sexual assault.

Nanaimo RCMP shared Woodgrove Centre’s surveillance footage of a man believed to be Indigenous or Hispanic, between 25 and 30-years-old and standing up to five foot 10.

Police said he may have information about the brazen attack in daylight hours last month.

A woman was attacked and groped by a stranger in the parking lot of the mall, only 10 parking spots away from the mall exit near the bus loop on Saturday, Feb. 20 at about 4.45 p.m.

“It’s quite brazen, it was broad daylight (and) the chances of being caught while doing this were very high,” Cst. Gary O’Brien said at the time. “It’s very disconcerting for us.”
