4 SD68 schools report COVID-19 exposure events

NANAIMO — School District 68 continues to experience COVID-19 exposure events.

Nanaimo District Secondary School suffered exposure dates on Feb. 19, from Feb. 22 to 26 as well as March 1 and 2.

Ladysmith Secondary confirmed an additional case with exposure events on Feb. 25 and 26. The school experienced a string of exposures already in February with dates beginning Feb. 8.

Wellington Secondary was added back onto Island Health’s list after initial exposures in late 2020. The school reporting a new case with exposure events March 1 and 2.

Bayview Elementary is also back on Island Health’s school exposure list with exposures on March 1 and 2.

Island Health has completed contact tracing.

Nine mid-Island schools are on Island Health’s school exposure list, although several are due off imminently.

Oceanside elementary in Parksville reported exposures Feb. 25 and 26.

Aspengrove in Lantzville along with Cedar, Uplands and McGirr elementary and Dover secondary schools all experienced exposures in February.

School District 68 was also recently chosen as a rapid response team, guiding other districts within Island Health on COVID-19 exposures.

“We’ve gone through exposure after exposure and worked on best practices to streamline the process,” Dale Burgos, SD68 spokesperson, previously told NanaimoNewsNOW.
