Newest Clipper repays faith with solid weekend performances

NANAIMO — New Clipper Keighan Gerrie made an immediate impact in a 1-1 weekend for the team.

Gerrie had a goal and two assists in his Clippers debut which drew praise from his coach Darren Naylor.

“Keighan gets the puck on his stick and everything slows down around him, there’s no panic in his game.”

Naylor noted the 20-year-old showed leadership qualities in his first weekend of action as well.

“On offense he’s going to show our guys the way and they can learn from him.”

The Clippers won 3-2 in overtime over the Bulldogs on Oct. 30 with Gerrie setting up Jack O’Brien for the game winner.

On Halloween night in Victoria, the Clippers got off to a good start with a power play goal from leading scorer Sean Donaldson but the Grizzlies would get the next five goals en route to a 5-1 win.

With four games left in the Island Cup Nanaimo is 6-4 and in second place in the standings.

There’s only one game in the weekend ahead for the Clippers a road tilt against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Nov. 6.

ICE CLIPS:

Sean Donaldson is Nanaimo’s leading scorer with 12 points which ranks him seventh in the BCHL

Tim Washe was given a two game suspension Oct. 24. The forward sat both of the team’s most recent contests but will be available again Nov. 6 in Alberni Valley.

Defenseman Gianni Fairbrother was handed a two game suspension resulting from a blow to the head penalty on Oct. 31. He will next be available Nov. 11 versus the Grizzlies.

Goalie Jordan Naylor is the BCHL’s leader in minutes played. He has played over 60 minutes more than the next closest player Riley Kohonick of Salmon Arm.
