Vancouver Island nearing one month of no new COVID-19 cases

NANAIMO — For nearly one month, the number of active or resolved cases of COVID-19 on Vancouver Island has held steady.

A joint statement from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix confirmed no new COVID-19 cases on Vancouver Island.

The total remains at 127, with the only active case being a person currently in hospital but not in the ICU.

A new case of COVID-19 within the Island Health region was last announced on May 7. Since then, two additional cases were added due to data corrections and weren’t new cases.

Across B.C., there were 22 new cases of the respiratory virus, bringing the provincial total to 2,623.

Health officials expressed sadness in the statement about confirming an additional death in the Fraser Health region.
