Suspicious package found at Woodgrove bus loop, mall not impacted

NANAIMO — RCMP cordoned off the Woodgrove Shopping Centre bus loop in response to a suspicious package being discovered Saturday afternoon.

Police were called to the mall after 2:30 p.m. and immediately blocked off the area.

Nanaimo RCMP and mall security awaited the Explosive Disposal Unit to arrive on scene at approximately 6 p.m.

The unit successfully disposed of the package and determined it posed no risk to the public. The bus loop was re-opened around 8 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Transit routes were redirected during the closure to the front of the mall, while those shopping inside were largely unaffected.
