NANAIMO — The Clippers won two of their three games on a road trip to Wenatchee, West Kelowna, and Coquitlam.

Against the Wild the Clippers had their best offensive output of the season in a 7-1 victory.

The line of Ethan Scardina, Kyler Kovich, and Josh Bourne combined for eight points in the win.

It was a night that started off with a bang as Bourne scored in the first minute and the Clippers had a 4-0 lead before the first period was over.

Nanaimo never looked back and recorded their first ever regulation win in Wenatchee.

Then the Clippers traveled overnight to get to West Kelowna for a Saturday night game against the team with the fewest points in the league.

The game went to overtime with Nanaimo eventually winning 4-3 on quick shot by Scardina.

Bourne, Tim Washe, and Sean Donaldson also scored in the win.

The final game of the road trip in Coquitlam featured a matchup of two division leaders, the top two defensive teams in the BCHL, and the league’s top two penalty killing clubs.

Nanaimo had leads of 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2 but lost in heart breaking fashion with a power play goal against with 1.8 seconds left on the clock.

Travis Walton, Steven Agriogianis, and Aiden Hansen-Bukata tallied for the Clippers. The goal for Hansen-Bukata was his first of the season.

Due to an illness to Zach Bennett, Jordan Naylor played all three games in goal for Nanaimo over the weekend, upping his record to 14-2 with a 1.79 goals against average.

There was some good news on the injury front with Scott Mahovlich playing his first game in a month on Dec. 1 in Coquitlam. Mahovlich had two assists in his return.

Some milestones were passed on the trip which included the Clippers finishing the first half of the season with a record of 20-7-1-1. Nanaimo went 10-1 in November.

As the calendar turned to December the Clippers have a three point lead on Cowichan Valley for first place in the Island Division.

CLIP NOTES:

Nanaimo added a pair of players before the Dec. 1 carding deadline. Warriors leading scorer Brandon Dent came to the team from West Kelowna in a future considerations deal. Meanwhile the Clippers added forward Evan Benwell from the SJHL while moving out Cade Cavallini to Humboldt.

Three Clippers went to the World Jr. A Challlenge Team Canada West selection camp in Calgary. Trevor LeDonne, Kyler Kovich, and late addition Ethan Scardina will find out by Dec. 3 if they will make the team.

Dec. 7 is the annual Teddy Bear Toss game. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to the game against Surrey to be thrown on the ice after the Clippers score their first goal.
