Clippers Weekend Wrap: Oct. 11-13

NANAIMO – The Clippers are in seventh heaven thanks to a long winning streak.

After reeling off seven consecutive victories the team is 9-3-0-1 and sitting just outside of first in the Island Division.

Their most recent three game road trip featured a trio of one goal victories.

Oct. 11 in Prince George Sean Donaldson scored the game winner in the fifth round of the shootout to give Nanaimo a 5-4 win.

Donaldson spent last season with the Spruce Kings so it was somewhat poetic that he scored the winning goal.

Kyler Kovich notched two goals in the contest and scored in every game on the road trip, ending with three goals and an assist.

In Merritt the next night Mike Kennedy’s first BCHL goal was the game winner in a back and forth game that finished 4-3.

The Clippers won the special teams battle by going 2/4 on the power play and 8/8 on the penalty kill.

The finale of the trip Oct. 13 in Langley saw Nanaimo go down 1-0 for a third consecutive game.

The Rivermen carried a 1-0 into the third period before Josh Bourne scored to even the game, and Steven Agriogianis buried the winner with just over three minutes to play.

Bourne had a goal in every game on the Clippers road trip and overall is on an eight game point streak with ten points over that span.

Agriogianis is on a four game point streak, and has scored in five of his first six games as a Clipper.

Nanaimo’s next game on Oct. 18 will be on the road in Trail.

The matchup is a battle of the two longest winning streaks in the BCHL.

The Smoke Eaters have won eight games in a row.

Nanaimo will play the best three teams in the Interior Division on consecutive days as they move from Trail, to Penticton, to Salmon Arm.

CLIP NOTES:

The Clippers Aiden Hansen-Bukata is off of the injured reserve list and is set to rejoin the team for the Oct. 18 game in Trail.

Forward Thomas Samuelsen has been traded to the Victoria Grizzlies in exchange for future considerations, a move made necessary because of 20-year-old regulations and the return of Hansen-Bukata.

Connor Wetsch was traded to the Langley Rivermen for future considerations. This move is a signal that the Clippers will be returning more players from injury list. Most notably Mackenzie Merriman and Cade Cavallini.

Nanaimo product Mitchell Finner played his first game in the BCHL Saturday in Merritt. Finner is a member of the North Island Silvertips of the BCMML.
