Nanaimo RCMP have made an arrest following a lengthy investigation into assaults against local sex trade workers.

Stephen Bradley Ewing, 40, was arrested and charged by officers on Thursday, Aug. 1, with three counts of sexual assault causing bodily harm.

The incidents allegedly took place between March and October 2018 and involved Nanaimo-based sex trade workers.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW officers chose to release Ewing’s photo in hopes of furthering the investigation.

“Based on the information we’ve obtained, our investigators are confident given he lives in Port Alberni and there’s a connection to Nanaimo…there are people that know stuff that may lead to further charges.”

Ewing appeared in court on Thursday and was ultimately released under several conditions, including a recognizance of $50,000 surety.

He is due to re-appear before the court on Sept 10, 2019.

Ewing had no prior criminal record, according to Court Services Online
