NANAIMO – The Clippers ended their six game losing streak emphatically with a 4-2 win over the Penticton Vees.

The Vees ended Nanaimo’s ten game winning streak earlier this month and Sunday’s win put a stop to a Penticton eight game winning streak.

Jonathan Stein put the home side up 1-0 in the first period with a top corner shot to the short side on Derek Krall.

Jordan Naylor made a highlight reel save in the opening 20 minutes when he robbed Penticton captain Massimo Rizzo on a clear cut breakaway.

Former Vee Sammy Steele gave Nanaimo a 2-0 lead in the second period with a shot from the right wing on the power play.

But then Lukas Sillinger banged home a loose puck behind Naylor to cut the score to 2-1.

Persistence was key for Matt Mosher who restored the Clippers two goal lead half way through the second.

Mosher had two whacks at a loose puck beside the Vees net and was able to shovel home his third of the season.

In the first minute of the third period Steele rifled home his second of the game on a one timer set up by Tyler Williams.

That goal stood up until the final minute when Sillinger nabbed his second of the game.

Nanaimo’s line of Mitchell, Steele, and Williams were the offensive leaders in the 4-2 win.

They combined for seven points as a unit.

The final shots finished 27-23 for the Vees and Nanaimo went 1/3 on the power play and didn’t give up a power play at all through 60 minutes.

Sunday’s Three Stars were Jordan Naylor (25 saves), Tyler Williams (3a), and Sammy Steele (2g).

Nanaimo is back to work quickly with a game against the Powell River Kings on the road on Tuesday.

The Clippers played without six regulars in their lineup against the Vees and will hopefully get some injury relief next week.
