Clippers win seventh straight 4-3 in Cowichan Valley

DUNCAN – It’s now a seven game winning streak for the Clippers after a 4-3 victory over the Capitals.

For the third straight game Nanaimo got off to a fast start thanks to goals by Aidan Hansen-Bukata and Mackenzie Merriman.

Paul Selleck had a late goal in the final minute of the first for the Capitals.

Blake Wood started the game for Cowichan but was replaced by Jack Grant after the 2-0 goal.

Landon Pavlisin started for Nanaimo and was solid in the first, but really shone in the second.

He made highlight reel saves on Selleck and Peter Tabor.

A late second period tally by Jonathan Stein gave the Clippers some insurance.

He’s been hot with three goals in four games.

The Clippers went up 4-1 thanks to a shorthanded goal by Marcus Mitchell in the first minute of the third period.

That goal ended up being the winner because of two goals in a five minute span by the Capitals.

Dimitri Mikrogiannakis and Luc Wilson on the power play sent the game down to the wire.

Ultimately Nanaimo won their fifth straight game against Cowichan and their fourth consecutive one goal game versus their Island rivals.

The final shots were 30-28 for the Clippers with Nanaimo going 0/4 on the man advantage and 1/2 on the penalty kill.

Wednesday’s Three Stars were Landon Pavlisin (25 saves), Paul Selleck (1g), and Jonathan Stein (1g 1a).

Next up the Clippers host the Langley Rivermen on Saturday at 7 p.m.
