Clippers end road trip with impressive 6-3 win in Langley

LANGLEY – The Clippers five game losing streak is now a memory after a 6-3 road win against the Rivermen on Sunday.

Nanaimo got down 2-0 in the first period but came storming back to score six of the final seven goals in the game.

Garrett Daly on a five on three, and then Alec Capstick got Langley on the board in the first period before Marcus Mitchell’s wrist shot from the right side got the Clippers rolling.

Nanaimo had the only goals of the second period on a one timer from Josh Bourne and a shot off the wing by Gunnar Wegleitner.

The Wegleitner goal chased Rivermen starter Shayne Battler in favour of Braedon Fleming.

Thomas Samuelsen upped the lead to 4-2 early in the third period but Langley narrowed the gap on a power play marker by Kalen Szeto.

Nanaimo put the hammer down with goals by Josh Bourne on the man advantage and Ethan Scardina.

Bourne finished the game with two goals and two assists.

The shots ended up 31-19 for the Rivermen but Jordan Naylor was very sharp in helping earn the Clippers the victory.

The Clippers were 1/7 on the power play and Langley went 2/6.

Sunday’s Three Stars were Josh Bourne (2g 2a), Tyler Williams (2a), and Marcus Mitchell (1g).

With the victory the Clippers move three points ahead of the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in the Island Division standings.

Those two teams will battle in the Clippers next game at Frank Crane Arena on Wednesday.
