Clippers on wrong end of 7-5 score against West Kelowna

NANAIMO – To say Friday’s game between the Clippers and Warriors was a wild one would be an understatement. 

The visitors won 7-5 in a contest that featured big swings in play.

West Kelowna scored the first four goals of the game in the opening 12 minutes.

Brandon Dent, Sam Anderson, and Willie Reim with two goals, got the Warriors off to a fast start.

Jordan Naylor started for the Clippers in net and Landon Pavlisin came in after the first three goals against.

The second period was all Clippers.

Nanaimo outshot West Kelowna 16-8 and got a couple of goals back with Gunnar Wegleitner finishing off a nice passing play, and Hunor Torszok scoring in his first game of the season.

Lucas Bahn put the Warriors back in to a three goal lead with a goal that banked off him behind Pavlisin.

Josh Bourne rifled a puck by Brock Baier on a power play to cut the lead to 6-4 after 40 minutes.

Nanaimo scored late in the third period on another power play off a screened shot by Aiden Hansen Bukata.

That made for an exciting finish and the Clippers nearly scored with Pavlisin on the bench but Bennett Norlin scored the the clincher into an empty net in the final minute.

The shots finished 41-32 for Nanaimo and the Clippers went 2/3 on the man advantage and 1/1 on the PK.

Friday’s Three Stars were Bennett Norlin (2g 2a), Willie Reim (2g 1a), and Josh Bourne (1g 2a).

West Kelowna won the season series 2-1 and the loss moves Nanaimo’s record to 6-3 in the month of November.

The Clippers open December with a home game Saturday against the Express.

Coquitlam won their only previous meeting 5-2 back in October.

Saturday is also the annual Teddy Bear Toss at Frank Crane Arena.
