‘Hometown Hockey’ in Nanaimo to feature an entire week of festivities

NANAIMO — A national hockey audience will be watching Nanaimo.

Rogers has announced its ‘Hometown Hockey’ broadcast on Sportsnet, featuring Ron MacLean, will originate from Nanaimo next February 25 and 26, centered around a Sunday evening match-up between the Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers.

Nanaimo city councillor Bill Bestwick says an outstanding community celebration will happen at Maffeo Sutton Park leading up to the weekend.

“We’re busy at work already building the entire week of festivities and we can’t wait. Really excited for this, it’s a great tourism and economic opportunity for us,” says Bestwick.

Bestwick says details of the week long lead-up celebration will be revealed in the months ahead, but does say it will be a family-friendly atmosphere, that everybody, including non-hockey fans, will enjoy.
