Mid-island jobless rate holds steady

The national unemployment rate dropped to 6.9% last month, down from 7.1% in April, according to Stats Canada.
A bump in public sector jobs is credited for the drop.
In B.C., the jobless rate jumped three-tenths of a percent to 6.1%.
The Nanaimo region’s unemployment rate last month held firm at 5.5%.
