Sitting is Killing You

If I asked you how many hours a day you sat down – what would you say? Hint – it’s probably more than you think.

As human beings we are not meant to sit all day. We are not mean to be sedentary and this lifestyle is killing us.

Sitting more the 6 hours per days increases your likelihood of dying 15 years earlier than someone who sits less than 3 hours a day – even if you exercise!

So what’s a concerned office worker to do? Pick one of these ideas to focus on this week…

  • Stand up and the top and bottom of every hour
  • stretch frequently
  • walk around the office as much as you can,
  • create a stand up work station
  • take the stairs
  • wear a pedometer
  • pace while you are on the phone
  • putter around after you eat
  • perch on a high stool rather than sitting on a low chair
  • have stand up meetings (an added bonus, they tend to be shorter!)

Perhaps most importantly if you have at sit down job, you must not take sit down breaks – be movin’ movin’ at breaktime!

Check out this great infographic on the subject…
