The Nanaimo African Heritage Society is celebrating Black History Month and their 19th Annual Gala Dinner & Dance, that’s coming up on Saturday, February 24th. 

It’ll be at the Coast Bastion Hotel and tickets still on sale (for $55 for adults, and $15 for children 9 to 14 years old). The evening will have a variety of live entertainment including dancers, African drummer, storytellers and more. 

The February Black History Month celebrations commemorate 160 years of Black Settlers arriving on Vancouver Island opening up new territory, homesteading farms and establishing businesses.
