Emergency Team called to Qualicum home after wanted man refuses to leave

Apr 24, 2017 | 2:40 PM

QUALICUM BEACH — The RCMP’s Emergency Response Team and a negotiator were called in Monday morning after a Qualicum Beach man refused to leave his home.

Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman told NanaimoNewsNOW they received a 911 call around 7 a.m. April 24, but the person hung up.

“We responded to the home (on Grand Rose Rd.) and the male inside…refused to come out. It was later discovered he had a warrant for his arrest,” Foreman said.

Foreman said Mounties didn’t know if the man, 41, had any weapons or what mental state he was in, so the specialty teams were called in “out of an abundance of caution.” He said the man was arrested without incident after a lengthy negotiation.
