Man dies in crash near Parksville

PARKSVILLE — A 27-year-old man from Coombs is dead after a crash on the Alberni Hwy early Sunday morning, according to RCMP.
Oceanside RCMP say the man’s small SUV went off the right side of Hwy 4A and hit a utility pole just after 4 a.m. Sunday. The crash happened just past the exit to Hwy 19 as the man was driving towards Parksville.
The vehicle was found in several pieces and the man was dead at the scene, Mounties say. Speed did appear to be a factor. No one else was in the vehicle.
The crash shut down both lanes of Hwy 4 in the area for about five hours while a collision analyst investigated.
