Metal flies off truck, smashes through ‘lucky’ Newfoundland woman’s windshield
ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — A Newfoundland motorist was stunned Thursday when a heavy piece of metal flew off a nearby truck and into her windshield.
The large piece of metal, estimated to weigh more than a large bowling ball, struck the car as it travelled on Waterford Bridge Road in St. John’s shortly before noon, police said.
The woman’s partner, who was on the scene, said she could have been killed.
But Sgt. Dave Hutchings of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says the woman’s injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
