PARKSVILLE — Mounties are hoping for more information after a hit and run in downtown Parksville.

Oceanside RCMP say a 61-year-old Parksville man was about three steps into the crosswalk on McCarter Street at Highway 19A when he was hit by an SUV turning onto the highway. Police say it happened at 4 p.m. on Nov. 14. Despite being sent flying over the hood of the vehicle, Cpl. Jesse Foreman says the man only suffered minor injuries.

Foreman says the driver of the SUV went a short way southbound along the highway, then pulled over like they were going to stop. Foreman says the vehicle then darted off and they are treating it as a hit and run.

Police have very little information to work with at this point. The vehicle is described as an older model, boxy, white, larger SUV.
