Very little interest in permits for Halloween fireworks in Nanaimo

NANAIMO — You won’t see or hear many Halloween fireworks around Nanaimo this year.

A ban on the sale and discharge of fireworks has been in place in the city since 2007.

Even though you can apply for a permit to let off Halloween fireworks, fire prevention officer Umesh Lal says there hasn’t been a lot of interest.

“I know we’ve issued one in the office,” said Lal. “Usually they come in this week if people want to apply for a permit, it has to be in place before the end of the business day on Friday.”
