EDMONTON — American Robin Carpenter took over the lead at the Tour of Alberta on Sunday after a strong sprint in Stage 4.

Carpenter, who rides for Holowesko-Citadel, completed the 12.1-kilometre time trial in Edmonton with the third fastest time of the day (15:00.30) to capture the Province of Alberta jersey with one stage to go.

Carpenter’s overall lead (10:49:26) is slim, with Stage 4 winner Bauke Mollema of Trek-Segafredo cycling just one second behind (10:49:27). Mollema was the fastest rider on Sunday as the Dutch cyclist finished in 14:44.12.

American Evan Huffman, of Rally Cycling, held the Province of Alberta jersey after Stage 3 but dropped to third place (10:49:33).
