Cougars tie VIJHL semi-final at 2 after 5-1 win

NANAIMO — The Buccaneers and Victoria Cougars are now embroiled in a best-of-3 to determine who will advance to the VIJHL final.

The Victoria Cougars recorded a 5-1 victory Sunday night at the Nanaimo Ice Centre to square the best-of-7 league semi-final at 2 games apiece.

The Buccaneers have home ice advantage heading into game 4 of the VIJHL semi final versus the Victoria Cougars. Game time is 7:30 Saturday, March 9 at the Pirate Ship.

ESQUIMALT — A trio of first period Victoria Cougars goals sunk the visiting Nanaimo Buccaneers ship as the VIJHL best-of-7 semi-final is knotted up at one game apiece.

NANAIMO — It was a difficult week for the Buccaneers, who faltered in back-to-back games for just the second time this season.

Nanaimo will look to rebound after losing to a hungry Glacier Kings team and a setback the next night to an always tough Braves in their home barn.
