Nanaimo's highly anticipated automated garbage program rolling out

NANAIMO — After sitting in a lot for months, two automated garbage trucks will soon hit the streets of Nanaimo.

An in-camera decision to move towards automation of solid waste collection was announced by Council earlier this week.

The six storey, $15 million hotel at 15 Front St. will be exempt from paying roughly $200,000 in taxes per year.

NANAIMO — A proposed hotel project in downtown Nanaimo will be exempt from municipal taxes for 10 years.

Council has approved the roughly $15 million Front St. project for the exemption under a City program designed to spur new hotel and motel investment.
