Excitement building for Nanaimo box lacrosse season

NANAIMO — Box lacrosse is underway at the minor level but it doesn't really feel like lacrosse season until the Junior and Senior teams get underway.
 
The Junior A and Senior B Timbermen both have their home openers on the same day, Saturday May 4.

Nanaimo Diamonds U16B girls fastball team wins bronze medal at White Rock tournament

WHITE ROCK — The Nanaimo Diamonds U16B girls fastball team won a bronze medal at a spring tournament over the weekend.
 
During the round robin the girls went 2-2, and were seeded sixth going into the medal round.

Nanaimo track and field athletes look forward to 2019 season

NANAIMO – It's early in the 2019 season, but athletes with the Nanaimo Track and Field Club are putting in the work now to achieve positive results at some of the big events later in the year.

The most prominent athlete associated with the club right now is high jumper Mike Mason.

RICHMOND — Island Top Team had an excellent showing at the Katana Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament at the Richmond Olympic Oval on Saturday.

NANAIMO — The VIU Mariners held their awards banquet on Monday after a stellar year of PACWEST and CCAA competition.
 
In 2018-19 the Mariners captured double gold in CCAA volleyball, a men's national basketball title, and a women's provincial championship.

Hornets Premier Men's rugby team wrap up season this weekend

NANAIMO — The Premier League rugby season is winding down for the Nanaimo Hornets, with one game left against the UBC Old Boys Ravens this weekend.
 
It's the second season at the Premier level for the Hornets who sit with a league record of 3-11-1.
