VIU Mariners hockey team in second place heading to Christmas break

NANAIMO – The VIU Mariners hockey team is going in to the Christmas break in second place in the BCIHL.

They sit at 7-5-0-1, four points back of first place Trinity Western.

VIU is being led offensively by Dallas Calvin with 18 points and Brett Witala who has 17.

NANAIMO – The Senior B lacrosse season ended on Labour Day weekend at a sold out Frank Crane Arena.

The Timbermen won a national silver medal after taking the St. Albert Miners to overtime in an unforgettable final.

Nanaimo Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor wins 'superfight' in Vancouver

NANAIMO — The man who spends many hours coaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at Island Top Team took to the mat himself over the weekend.

NANAIMO — It was a difficult week for the Buccaneers, who faltered in back-to-back games for just the second time this season.

Nanaimo will look to rebound after losing to a hungry Glacier Kings team and a setback the next night to an always tough Braves in their home barn.

The Mid Island Pirates now have their own indoor training facility in South Nanaimo.  The first winter training session was November 20.

NANAIMO – Ball season? ...Not exactly but the Mid Island Pirates have built a new facility to ensure their players can train all year round.

They've converted an old cooling unit at South Nanaimo Regional Recycling into a practice space that can accommodate any aspect of the game.
