$10K worth of tools stolen after thieves smash through wall of Parksville store

Apr 16, 2019 | 4:49 PM

PARKSVILLE — Oceanside RCMP hope the public can help them track down the criminals behind a large-scale tool heist in Parksville.

Cpl. Jesse Foreman said the Albertsons Home Centre on Franklin’s Gull Rd. in the Parksville Industrial Park was broken into sometime between 3 p.m. on April 14 and the early morning of April 15.

Foreman said about $10,000 worth of tools, including drills, cicular saws and batteries were taken.

“This is a large cache of tools and they’re Makita brand so they’re pretty unique with their teal colour. We’re hoping somebody sees or knows of something and can give us a tip on this.”

Some of the stolen items were also limited edition black coloured Makita brand tools.

Foreman said it appeared the thieves used tools of their own to break through a wall to gain access, adding the store’s alarm didn’t go off for some reason.

Parksville-Qualicum Beach businesses are a popular target of late, Foreman said.

“We’ll be sending out some messaging through the local chambers of commerce,” Foreman said. “Alarm systems and surveillance are a police officer’s two best friends…Another option we’re endorsing is an alarm that turns on all the lights in the store when it’s activated, to alert criminals it’s time to leave because someone is watching.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Oceanside RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
