Burst tire led to serious Saturday crash in Lantzville

NANAIMO — Police say mechanical failure caused a serious crash on Highway 19 in Lantzville which sent a woman to hospital.

Witness accounts from the incident near Superior Rd. told police a tire blew out on an older model Mitsubishi which then crashed into the median and flipped at approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.

The 23-year-old woman driver was flown to Victoria General Hospital where she remains in critical condition.

The incident shut down all Highway 19 lanes of traffic near Superior Rd. for several hours.
