NANAIMO — RCMP say a motorcyclist is dead after being hit by two cars going the same direction near the Country Club Centre.

RCMP Cst. Gary O'Brien said the vehicles were all travelling northbound on the Island Hwy. around 12 p.m. on March 22 between 106th St. and Norwell Dr. when the "terrible accident" occured.

"It's preliminary right now...it appears the motorcyclist was between the two vehicles, so he in turn struck the vehicle ahead of him and then the vehicle behind hit the motorcyclist."

The two other drivers were taken to hospital with minor injuries as a precaution.

The highway was closed for roughly four hours, leading to significant traffic congestion and delays.
