Clippers lose 5-4 overtime thriller to Kings, trail series 3-1

Mar 5, 2019 | 9:52 PM

NANAIMO – The Clippers and Kings series had it’s first overtime game on Tuesday with Powell River winning 5-4.

It was a unique game story with Nanaimo coming out of the gate hard and building up a 3-0 first period lead.

Gunnar Wegleitner, Mackenzie Merriman on the power play, and Josh Bourne got the Clippers out in front.

After that starter Mitch Adamyk was pulled in favour of Kings backup goalie Matteo Paler-Chow.

Then the second period was all Powell River as they scored four times in a span of 11 minutes.

Josh Coblenz scored on a power play and then Levi Glasman had a five on three goal to change the momentum.

Glasman scored again and Ben Berard tallied as well to put the visitors up 4-3 through 40 minutes and stun the home crowd.

Nanaimo battled back in the third period with Gunnar Wegleitner notching his second of the night to send the game to overtime.

The Clippers killed off an overtime penalty and then had numerous chances, especially a point blank opportunity by Kyler Kovich.

But Paler-Chow stood tall and kept the game even.

Glasman put home his hat trick goal behind Jordan Naylor to give the Kings a 5-4 win and a 3-1 series lead at 13:56 of overtime.

The final shots were 40-34 for Nanaimo with the Clippers going 1/2 on the man advantage and 3/5 on the penalty kill.

Tuesday’s Three Stars were Gunnar Wegleitner (2g), Levi Glasman (3g), and Tyler Williams (2a).

A must win Game 5 comes up for the Clippers Thursday night at the Hap Parker Arena.
