RDN presses ahead with much-needed bridge over Little Qualicum River

Feb 28, 2019 | 3:48 PM

NANAIMO — It’s hoped a crucial bridge will once again be in place at the Little Qualicum River Regional Park to help save the river below.

The Regional District of Nanaimo board voted in favour of proceeding to the next step of the process to replace the only bridge in the park, which was decommissioned in 2014 due to structural concerns and removed in 2017.

The long-in-the-works project will hopefully be complete by the end of 2020 and is expected to cost roughly $840,000.

Wendy Marshall, manager of parks services with the Regional District, said providing bridge access will solve a continuing issue with motor vehicles using the Little Qualicum River to cross into Crown-land.
