PENTICTON – The Clippers ten game winning streak came to an end in a hard fought contest against the Vees.

Penticton won 4-1 in a game that was tight until late in the third period..

In the first period Nanaimo had some good chances at the start of the game from Jonathan Stein, Mackenzie Merriman, and Tyler Williams.

It was the Vees who scored the first goal with Massimo Rizzo collecting a loose puck behind Jordan Naylor.

That goal was the only tally until mid way through the third period.

Both Naylor and the Vees Jack Lafontaine were on top of their game, and were able to shut down the opposition.

Rizzo scored on a screened shot just after a Vees power play to up the lead to 2-0, and moments later a Jack Barnes tally gave Penticton a three goal advantage.

Merriman ripped home a late power play goal to get Nanaimo on the board, and with the Clippers down on a late five on three Penticton got a rebound goal from Lucas Sillinger with under one second left.

The final shots on goal were 40-21 for the Vees with the Clippers going 1/2 on the man advantage and 5/6 on the PK.

Saturday’s Three Stars were Massimo Rizzo (2g 1a), Jack Lafontaine (20 saves), and Luke Loheit (1a).

The teams started to get a hate on for each other in the third period with a total of 19 different infractions, including misconducts in the final 20 minutes.

The rivalry will continue in another two weeks when Penticton comes to Frank Crane Arena on January 27th.

Nanaimo will look to start another winning streak Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Salmon Arm.
